Response to Freddy Villegas

The statements are completely false. MAMBEC has been successful in business for 20+ years developing thousands in a multicultural environment.

MAMBEC required construction and painting in the 1200sf studio. As a customer, Mr. Freddy Villegas quoted $800 to do the work on December 16-17 ready for reopening on December 18. MAMBEC gave Villegas the contract in good faith. Photos were taken prior to and after the work completion.

Chronology:

The supplies and key were provided on December 15th.

On December 18, the work was 30% complete. MAMBEC split studio to conduct business.

MAMBEC provided two staff to expedite work.

Villegas said work be done by December 22nd.

On December 22nd the work was not done. Uneven paint everywhere, overspray everywhere, just a mess. Villegas would fix by end-of-day for another 4 hours. Villegas demanded payment of 66 hours at $40/hour for a total of $2, 640 versus original quote. MAMBEC paid staff for 35 hours. Villegas also billed $268 for additional supplies. Carroll challenged bill, Villegas agreed to pay half for staff helpers. Villegas paid his daughter’s outstanding tuition. MAMBEC reluctantly e-transferred $2, 190 (not HST registered) and trusted Villegas to fix deficiencies.

On December 28, no deficiencies fixed, the key was in the lock box. The overall job was a mess! MAMBEC paid 3 times the amount quoted. MAMBEC could not re-open in that condition. Time would not permit hiring someone else, MAMBEC repainted 3 walls and removed overspray from the floor.

On January 2nd, Carroll informed Villegas that MAMBEC trusted him to do a professional job. Villegas agreed to fix the situation; however MAMBEC wanted no further dealings with him. Villegas threaten Carroll with allegations of discrimination and lack of professionalism on social media. Under the circumstances, MAMBEC informed Villegas in writing they want no further dealings the Villegas family.

A professional place to study martial arts in a multicultural environment!

Congratulations MAMBEC on your 20th anniversary in business as well as always being a recognized member in good standing with Karate Nova Scotia.

That is quite an accomplishment!

Since 2003, MAMBEC continues to thrive under the leadership and direct supervision of Lavonne Carroll in the Cole Harbour Place facility. MAMBEC has developed thousands of children to become responsible caring adults in a multicultural environment.

MAMBEC has produced over 80 contemporary black belts. As community leaders, the parents have spoken.

In our experience, MAMBEC definitely proved to be a wonderful program for our children, they learned to play respectfully in groups, gained self esteem and confidence, with the benefits of martial arts and life skills. The themes helped our children focus. We saw significant improvement in their school work too.

Our children also loved the camps so much that we took advantage of the before and after school program, and birthday parties too.

We’re looking forward to the continued growth of MAMBEC and the benefits for our children and community.

Thank you Lavonne and your team of professionals for teaching our children about the real world, and helping them grow in the MAMBEC spirit!

Is disturbing know that the local regulatory department allows people to run places like this that can affect kids life. Is really disturbing. This place discriminate my 5 years old daughter use intimidation retaliation and abuse of power to keep things out of public knowledge. Is a place run by 2 teenagers under pay . The owners will use theirs power against you if you say something and will discriminate your kid . Is absolutely disturbing.

My daughter use to attend this afte school program, my daughter is a racially diverse kid I'm a Latino my wife is a black woman . They retaliate to my kid and treat her in a diminish way compared to the other black kids . The people that run this program are not qualified have no interest in what is best for the kids treat kids as a merchandise. And if you kid us a minority, they don't get the same treatment as white kids . Be careful this is not a safe space for anyone specially if your kid is a racial minority . Don't make the mistake a made .

One of the programs here is for kids, it helps them defend themselves against a bully while getting fit and gaining life skills. The martial art is Kempo Karate. The other program is 16 and up, this program is Wing Chun Kung Fu which is a brutal street defence system that works very well. I am in both classes but I am in the instructor program, they are teaching me how to teach students and they have given me all I need to open my own dojo one day.
