Calgary School of Haidong Gumdo
Haidong Gumdo is a Korean Sword art based on several older Korean sytles. It is a complex, beautiful sword martial art that blends power and speed with smooth fluid motion. Haidong Gumdo is focused on combat versus multiple opponents using large, circular cuts as opposed to some other sword arts which employ techniques geared towards one-on-one or individual combat.
Haidong Gumdo focuses exclusively on training with the sword. Students begin using a wooden practise sword (mokgum) to learn basic techniques, then move on to blunt metal practise swords. Advanced students (2nd Dan Black Belts and above) learn cutting techniques with live swords. Combat sparring
is a limited part of the training with the majority of the time spent practising sword patterns and cutting techniques.

Class Schedule:
Mondays & Wednesdays 8:30-9:30pm
Saturdays 1-3pm
Location: the School operates out of the JJ Lee Tae Kwon Do School
Minimum Age to join is 12yrs. No Contract required. Class fees are paid monthly. All equipment is provided for your first class.
Students are responsible for purchasing a uniform through the school. Practise swords can be purchased through the school or at any martial arts supply store, they must however be inspected by an instructor prior to use.
