I have been a member for over 25 years. There is a good reason for that.

Such as the physical benefits, the skills I've learned and the friends I've made.

You can't go wrong giving it a try.

I started classes at this club in my mid-thirties. I was nervous that martial arts would be difficult or intimidating for an older, non-athlete like me. It was clear from the beginning this was a safe place to learn a new activity that challenged my mind and body. They provide constant encouragement and support to help you surpass what you see as your own limitations. The instructors and students are welcoming, supportive, encouraging, funny and kind. It truly is a second home. I strongly encourage anyone wanting to try martial arts but afraid they haven't got what it takes to check out this club. You'll amaze yourself with what you can accomplish with their guidance.

The hidden gem of Alberta

Let me preface this by saying, I am not a regular student or a member of this organization. I teach a different style of karate at my own school in sylvan lake. I have made the journey to Edmonton to train here and always been rewarded with new knowledge that was of a deeper quality. If you are interested in learning the very best of Traditional Karate, train HERE!! This is the hidden gem of central Alberta. The quality of instruction here is second to none and frankly if I lived in Japan it would be worth the trip back to train here. Genuine, sincere, powerful traditional Karate!!

Fun tournament, and excellent teachers.

I have been privileged to know the head instructors for close to a decade, from my first year as a white belt. Through various tournaments and seminars over the years have come to respect them greatly, not just for their skill in the martial arts, but for their kind, patient, and encouraging personalities.

Every spring they host a small, welcoming tournament. Where they invite friends from various dojos and styles, to show their stuff in a friendly, but still competitive atmosphere. I shan't drop names, but the guests have included in the past some of the very best, including members of Canada's national team, and internationally renowned masters. That they come, not for the prizes, or to be in the spotlight, but because it is top class Martial Arts, shared for the love of it. That alone is a level of praise beyond measure.

I joined a karate club in Inuvik NWT. When I moved to Edmonton I visited a few clubs but this one became home. No matter how tired I am after a day at work I look forward to the classes because I know I'll feel invigorated afterwards. The classes are fun with warm up exercises and drills that are tailored to various fitness levels, the instructors focus on teaching the basics step by step so you don't hurt yourself and the group is friendly and has become my karate family. I have enjoyed the seminars and tournaments and now have karate friends I can visit all over the world who also study Itosu Kai karate!. ..
