I have been training here for quite a while now, and I just love it! Kyoshi is always there for me and always helping me improve. This dojo is a fun and amazing community with fun people. We train traditional karate and learn a lot too. We train with weapons and we learn about the right mindset. Anyways this dojo has helped me with SOOOOOOO many things, it helped me get the right mindset and to have leadership, persistence. .. It has also helped me with my social skills, before I used to be shy and not talk to anyone because I was scared but this dojo and karate training has helped me! Thank you so much! 😊

I trained at this dojo for a little while and had a great time there. I learned a lot. They have great Shotokan karate. I use to train in a few other schools in different cities and so far this was the best shotokan that I've personally seen. I'm currently not training there anymore due to my new job, family and busy schedule. But when I can free up some time and I can get back into training I will definitely be going back. :)

My child has been training at this dojo for about 2 years now and he has learned a lot. I watch the classes as frequently as I can and as a parent I am very impressed with how the sensei's really care for the children and try to work with them to help them get better. On some occasions even senior students will work with my son after class to help him with areas he may be struggling in. My son has always had trouble with focus and self control and being in this program my son is starting to show more focus in his regular school as well as at home. I am very happy with his progress! It's a big achievement. My son loves the classes and is excited every day that he gets to go. I'm very grateful for all the work this dojo has done to teach my son about karate and about focus and leadership skills.

I highly recommend training at this dojo

A very proud father

In this school it takes you forever to get to the black belt and it cost a fortune. Read other reviews here:

You get what you pay for

My son has been there for about 4 years now starting in the kinder karate program. While it may seem expensive (it is but so are most sports)you get what you pay for. John Leroux is qualified in many aspects of karate including weapons training. This is more than just some community karate class you can take at a communuity centre. It has done wonders for my boy who has diagnosed coordination and core strength issues. More than just kicking and punching there is a real focus on values and discipline as well as fitness, balance coordination and life skills. It can be somewhat crowded and yes some students do teach (that is actually part of their progression)but the benefits far outweigh the negatives. Again, it is expensive but you are paying for quality total concept training.

Money grabber...

My teenage son attended for nearly two years... John Leroux himself rarely teaches class. He instead uses senior dojo members to teach the classes which they do for no pay by the way. Think of that scam... you do nothing and you get your senior clients to teach the junior clients and you don't have to pay them a cent.

Anyway, back on track... the Karate being taught is not that great. Students are moved along through the belt grading system, whether they are skilled or not, with applicable belt graduation fees $$$ of course. What a scam.!

Finally, when we fell on very hard financial time, I asked if he could forgo the contract and let us leave. Absolute not, we had to continue to over $200 a month for another five months.

His whole business is geared toward scamming people. Please don't patronise this business.
