KW Yoshinkan Aikido is Kitchener-Waterloo's premiere Yoshinkan-style dojo. Yoshinkan aikido utilizes an attacker's energy against them through non-resistance and unbalancing, along with the execution of hard strikes, effective blocks, strong pins, and throws and joint destructions. We train aikido as a budo and a path to self-development through hard training. Our instructors are Jake Hutter (4th dan), Michael Wright (3rd dan) and Shelly Keilikhis (2nd Dan). We are certified internationally with the Yoshinkan world headquarters dojo in Tokyo, Japan, and have relationships with many of the top teachers of Yoshinkan aikido worldwide.
Although Yoshinkan is the 'hard' style of aikido, we adapt our curriculum to the needs, fitness level, and physical limitations of our students, always fostering self-improvement and skill-building. Fundamental skills such as developing good balance and learning how to safely take a fall are useful to people of all ages.
We offer a free trial period for those wishing to give us a try. Please contact us to find out more!
