From the moment that I first walked into the Kushindokai dojo it was obvious that this is a place where the students come first.
I was looking for a karate school for my daughter (who was 8 at the time) and after visiting all of the other dojos in the area the clear choice was very clear as to which one to choose.
The level of instruction is excellent - challenging and fun for people of all ages and abilities. The ratio of instructors to students was also very good and new students quickly learn what is expected of them to progress. Belts are awarded only once they are earned with effort - not with $$. And (unlike a few of the well known schools in the area) you will never find a 10 or 12 year old Black Belt/instructors at this school.
After a few months of watching my daughter progress and commit to the training curriculum, like many of the other "Kushindokai Parents", I signed-up as well. That was over four years ago and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. I have bonded with my girl on a whole new level, improved my fitness and confidence and have met many great people.
I would definitely recommend this Karate school to anyone.

After careful examination of all the schools in town, Kushindokai was the one we picked. After one class we know it was the right decision, because we were taught more in that class then we had in the 3 years at Johanis. We are continuously impressed with the level of instruction, the attention to the movements and the art of Karate. We have spent time learning not only how to do each movement, but we have been taught to know the bunki behind each movement. This makes for a far deeper understanding of Karate. We do light or no touch sparring, and at first we thought this meant it was a light weight school. What we have grown to know is that, where at the last school we thought we were good at it, here we have seen that we were slow, and predictable. Kushindokai, is showing us how to know what your opponent will do, how to read them and how to unlock the power in each move in a super fast way. I can only hope that I will become as fast as these guys here are. This is an awesome school and I so happy we had a falling out with that other place, as you don't know how bad a place is until you get a first comparison. So happy to be @Kushindokai
Based on the above comments we would be willing to give this school a try. We had the worst experience with Johanis Karate School. John and Elyse were extremely unprofessional, rude and arrogant to students and parents. They have underhanded business practices and they should be exempted from entering their school in any karate competitions . I wish their business would be closed down permanently. Parents should read the reviews of that school, I wish I had.
