McDojo Belt Factory

No!

I went to this school for about a year -actually wanting to learn some skills. What I got at Lewis' was a fitness based belt factory. Very little integrity taken into account while teaching or demonstrating kata. Little to no history of the martial arts is taught and the teachers are all high school children who are barely the same age as the kids IN the classes. I left after my contract was up.

For the whole family

I've been active in the martial arts since I was s kid. I have studied Karate, Aikido (Yoshinkan), Jiu Jitsu (CanRyu), Kali (Pekiti Tersia), Krav Maga as well as several use of force training. The focus at Lewis is not on competition but rather developing the martial spirit of being a good person through physical training and Kempo Karate. In other words they don't teach people to beat up other people, but rather to take comfort in knowing that they can protect themselves and not be arrogant to the point of forcing a violent confrontation. Be humble, and respectful of others.

The bonus to this Dojo is Royer Gracie BJJ in the same Dojo. Do one or the other or both. This is an excellent pairing of martial arts that make a sound self-defense base.

Three of my family members are involved in the Karate program, and I'm strongly considering adding BJJ to my martial arts CV.

This school has been great for my grandchildren. They love going and look forward to every class. I recommend this school to anyone who is thinking of signing their children up for any kind of martial arts.
