Medicine Hat Judo Club
Judo is a grappling martial art and Olympic sport based out of Japan. It utilizes throws and footsweeps utilizing an opponent's gi (judo uniform) to off balance and control them. There is a groundwork component to judo as well to follow up throws that aren't perfectly executed. The groundwork involves pins, and for higher ranks and ages, arm bars and chokes for submissions. Although competition is an option and encouraged, one does not need to compete in tournaments to have a successful judo career. It's not uncommon for judoka to engage in the sport for their physical health or for confidence in self defense.
