The Edmonton Northern River Karate School Association (ENRKSA) is a non-profit
society that has supported community service and weekly classes in traditional
practices for over 20 years in Edmonton. The Association has a mandate of accessiblity
and has developed low fee programs that are fun and rewarding for kids and adults
alike, at any level of talent or physical fitness.
Classs are family friendly - with family classes and two-for-one family rates - held in
the Belgravia Community Hall in South Edmonton, just south of the University of
Alberta campus. Children and adults work together in a non-competitive, nurturing
environment taught by internationally certified instructors. In small classes with lots
of individual attention, participants gain strength, confidence, health, fitness, and
vitality.
KARATE - WAY OF THE PEACEFUL WARRIOR
The martial arts classes are unique and powerful. Unlike many martial arts schools,
sport is not the focus. The curriculum leads to black belt certification in Uechi Ryu
Karate Do, a Chinese/Okinawan system with ancient ties to Crane, Tiger, and Dragon
Kung Fu styles, taught by internationally recognized instructor, Ken Read, 6th degree
Renshi black belt.
ASHTANGA YOGA - STABILITY AND EASE
The Yoga taught here is the transformative Ashtanga Vinyassa Yoga style, with classes
alternating between led and Mysore formats. On “moon day” classes, individual poses
are analyzed with discussions based on students’ questions. This program is taught by
Yoga Association of Alberta certified Yoga instructor, Jennifer Bustin. Yoga classes are
included in a full ENRKSA membership, or can be attended on a drop in basis.
