Easy to see why they have been voted best martial arts school. Safe, energetic, clean environment, fun for the students.
Both my children and myself have been attending SMAA for over 2 years (3 years in June 2018). My kids have been given opportunities to learn and to practice leadership skills, which is unusual for many martial arts schools. Master Tyler, who teaches kids brazilian jiu jitsu, makes classes fun so that my 11 year-old daughter looks forward to going to class (i. e. I dont have to drag her to class after being at school, she is dressed and excited to get there). Unfortunately, bullying is seriously on the rise and both of my kids have used their brazilian jiu jitsu to defend themselves and de-escalate bad situations with other students at public school. I should mention here that both of my kids were able to manage the bullying situations without harming the aggressor or getting punished by the school. It just doesn’t get any better than that does it? In addition, my kids are so confident of their ability to manage conflict that they stepped in and stopped aggressive kids from harming weaker classmates! One older boy was picking on her friend and she stepped in. The boy tried to grab her and she put him in a submission. He actually apologized to her the next day and has left her alone since. I should mention that my daughter is small in comparison to her classmates, but she is an absolute tiger on the mats and got a gold medal as a white belt in a tournament last year. When she has intervened at school, other kids ask, “what just happened, what did you do there?” She keeps her secret to herself, she doesn’t hurt others if she can help it and she keeps herself safe. Thanks to Tyler, Craig, Anne and Amanda for all that they do. They have transformed my children’s lives and that is not an exaggeration. It is the only place to go for training in the area. This family has decades of experience in the martial arts. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND SMAA WITHOUT RESERVATION.
