Zanshin Dojo is an exciting classical karate dojo. “Classical” means that our instruction is based on the traditional style of karate instruction, which focuses on hard work, challenging drills and collective discipline. Our instructors are supportive and helpful, and are always encouraging our students to execute their techniques with greater speed, strength and accuracy.
Zanshin Dojo's chief instructor, Daniel Whittal, has trained in the martial arts since he was a young child. He currently holds the rank of yondan (4th degree black belt) in Shorin Ryu karate. He has been a successful competitor in competitions in Canada, the United States, Panama and the Dominican Republic. His study of the martial arts has also included judo and Brazilian Ju Jutsu in Quebec City, and Seido karate in New York City. Sensei Whittal continues to train with dozens of other high-ranking black-belts on a weekly basis with his own sensei, Hanshi Gary Legacy, 10th dan, as part of the Legacy Shorin Ryu Karate association.
Legacy Shorin Ryu is Canada's foremost Karate association. Established in 1971 and still run today by Hanshi Legacy, it is Classical Okinawan Karate style with emphasis on proper fighting, technique, history and discipline.
