West Island Karate and Karate De L'ile are martial arts schools located in Ile-Perrot and Beaconsfield, respectively, on the west island of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The dojo (school) was founded by Sensei John Kalaidopoulos (4th Dan) in 1997. We teach traditional Kyokushin Karate to kids, teens and adults in a safe, friendly, family-oriented environment with an emphasis on technique, physical fitness, and the building of the mind and spirit. While always having fun and being challenged, our students learn much more than a respected martial art and self-defense. They also learn many invaluable lessons which can be applied to every aspect of their lives, now and in the future.
Our reputation for excellence is well known and we were recently featured on Breakfast Television (watch the video at https://youtu.be/vwMXaJW28dY). We are a member of the World Karate Organization ShinKyokushinkai, the largest organization of its kind, consisting of over 80,000 members in 81 countries throughout the world as of April 2012. Based in Japan and led by Kancho Kenji Midori, the president of our organization, the WKO has mounted a campaign to have Karate included as an official Olympic sport by the time the 2020 Olympics take place in Tokyo.
